In a groundbreaking move to bridge the technology gap and foster economic empowerment, CodeBoxx Academy has announced a strategic partnership with the Urban League of Hillsborough County (ULHC). This collaboration will provide Full Stack Developer training to a cohort of 12 students, beginning on August 12, at no cost to participants, thanks to a generous grant from the Department of Labor. Additionally, Digital Inclusion St. Pete will support the initiative by providing laptops to all participants, ensuring they have the necessary tools to succeed.
This partnership is a significant step towards achieving ULHC’s mission of attaining economic equity for African American and minority communities through education and skills training. By offering high-quality tech training, the program aims to enhance participants' earning potential and meet the staffing needs of local tech companies, creating a positive economic ripple effect in the Tampa Bay area.
Brian Peret, Director of CodeBoxx Academy, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “We are excited to partner with the Urban League of Hillsborough County to provide this vital training. Our program is designed to equip students with the skills needed to thrive in today’s digital economy, and partnerships like these are crucial for workforce development in our community.”
The demand for skilled technology professionals continues to grow, with the tech industry projected to expand by 11% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. Upskilling initiatives like this partnership are essential to meet this demand and provide career opportunities for underrepresented communities. This collaboration underscores the critical role of community engagement in tackling workforce challenges and driving economic growth in the region. By bringing together educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and tech industry partners, this program sets a powerful example of how collective efforts can create meaningful pathways to success in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
Kiah Wilson, Interim Executive Director of ULHC, emphasized the importance of such collaborations, stating, “By working with CodeBoxx Academy and Digital Inclusion St. Pete, we are providing our community with the tools and opportunities needed to succeed in the tech industry.”
